Ireland North Trip
ItinararyDay 1/2 - Dublin
Day 3/4 - Cushendall Day 5 - Enniskillen Day 6/7 - Lehinch (Cliffs of Moher) Day eight - Skerries (Dublin) Day nine - fly home (ALL DAY) Well we are making a second trip to Ireland. We had so much fun, enjoyed the country and people that we wanted to visit the Northern portion that we did not get to see last time.
Marked on the map with a star are the places we'll be visiting this time. We had been to Dublin, Galway and the Cliffs of Moher before. We wanted a bit more time at the Cliffs this time, and since the flight lands in Dublin we will start our journey there. |
We fly out on Sunday headed for Dublin. Our flight will take a bit going through Houston and London before arriving in Ireland. This trip we are going to be staying at mostly B&Bs and driving from place to place. So with the right hand drive and opposite side of the road we will have a few stories to tell.
In Dublin we plan to walk most of the city. Partly because we will be visiting the Guinness Storehouse again, but also because the roads are a bit tricky. There are many one way streets and since we'll be new to the driving it might be better to learn out on the open road rather than in the busy city.

Our return flight from Dublin was a whole day adventure. We arrived at Dublin Airport at 6:36am (12:36am CST), thinking our flight was not until after 9am we had plenty of time. Well with the delays in the American customs area we arrived at our gate while they were boarding the second group, and we were group 3. Flight from Dublin was to Newark, which took about 8.5 hrs. Now in Newark we had a short delay of only a couple hours, then we would depart for Houston. In Houston however we had a 5 hr layover which seemed to take FOREVER. We left Houston for Amarillo arriving at baggage claim at 11pm. That made our 5am (Dublin time) wake up 24hrs ago. Now we did get a bit of sleep on the plane from Dublin and a wink or two in Houston, but that was certainly the longest day I've ever experienced.
Now that the trip is over and we are back in the states. We had a grand time and were able to see some pretty amazing places. Driving was worrisome before travel but not an issue at all once we got going. You'll need a very good navigation APP if you don't know your way around. Our niece told us about HERE (we go) on our first night at dinner. That was a life savor. While in the West it tended to put us on VERY small roads and tried to route us directions I knew were not the way I wanted to go (only twice), it was the best APP for Off-line audible mapping.
